The Late Night Carb Myth: Why Eating Carbs Before Bed Won’t Ruin Your Diet
Debunking the myth to set you free so you can eat pasta for dinner
I bet you’ve heard about the topic before, no matter where you’re from. We’ve been told that we should completely avoid carbohydrate consumption at night because they will make us fat.
As if nutrition was that simple.
Fortunately, there’s a lot of cientific and influential voices out there speaking the truth now but, just in case you didn’t know, I’ll share today with you why carbs aren’t as bad as we thought related to obesity.
But first thing first: what are carbs?
Carbohydrates 101
Carbohydrates are one of the three essential macronutrients. Their main function is to provide energy and, of course, we all need energy to live — that’s why they are essential.
Getting a little bit more into biochemistry — not much though — when we consume carbohydrates they basically get broken down in our system into simple sugars: glucose (there’s more but we’ll keep it simple). Those glucose molecules are then absorbed in our bloodstream and the amount of those will determine what happens with them:
