Yes, I’m going to talk about sugar.

This will come as no surprise, we all know sugar is bad for our health. But being someone with a nutrition background, I want to focus on one of the whys.

After reading this, you’ll know the main reason why it’s not good without the need of having to memorize anything. You’ll see it’s all connected.

Sugars

We need to define what sugars and carbohydrates are first.

We all know carbohydrates are one of the three macronutrients we all need, and their main function is to provide us with energy. There are different types of carbohydrates but they basically are molecules repeated over and over (chained) creating these big nutrients (that’s why they’re called macros).

Sugars are simple carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are those in which the basic unit, that’s repeated over and over in a linear way, is formed by one or two molecules (mono and disaccharides).

These are found in fruits (fructose), milk (lactose), cake, candy, and any refined sugar (sucrose) products. These last three ones, as you already know, are the dangerous ones for their high sugar and very little vitamin content.
