How I Became a Data Analyst Without a Degree — And How You Can Too
Some years ago I did what every 18-year-old is supposed to do at that age (based on what society says): pick a degree and go to college. I enrolled in an engineering degree and did well during my first year. But then, things started to change.
As I turned 19, the maturation process started. I started reading, choosing what and who influenced my beliefs, consciously deciding how I spent my free time… Lots of things changed internally, and it also had repercussions on the outside.
One was dropping out of college.
In reality, I didn’t drop out at that time. I changed degrees and also had some sabbatical semesters until I ended up dropping out.
I wasn’t dropping out because I was too lazy to study or because I didn’t like the career I would have afterwards. I was dropping out because I wasn’t learning anything and I had already learned a lot of programming on my own before.
Why pay for an expensive degree if you’re not learning anything?
So I finally became brave enough to drop out and challenge the status quo. I knew I’m good at learning stuff on my own but I was too afraid to be confident.
